O’Malley makes early third day move at Michael Hill NZ Open - Saturday, 30 January 2010

Australian Peter O’Malley has birdied four consecutive holes to charge up the leaderboard during the early stages of the third round of the Michael Hill New Zealand Open at Queenstown.

O’Malley, the New Zealand Open champion in 1995, has moved to nine under through 42 holes, to be tied for fourth, four shots behind overnight leader American Robert Gates, who has birdied his first hole.

After pars on the first two holes, O’Malley reeled off his four birdies from three through to six. Other early movers include New Zealand’s Josh Geary, who birdied two of his first three holes to be at eigh under and in a share of eighth place.

After an early morning shower which greeted the first groups off, the sky has cleared to reveal a magnificent sunny day.
